The beaches of Kato Meria of Amorgos combine crystal clear waters as well as mountain and sea alterations. They are suitable for families but also attract the diving enthusiasts!
The Mouros beach in Amorgos is covered in small and large pebbles. It is 15 kilometers away from Chora, and is located in the south, very close to Vroutsi and Kamari villages. Cars and motorbikes (as well as the local bus) can travel up to a certain point (a paved road with a sign pointing left).
Then you will have to take a footpath to reach the beach. Here, make sure you swim out to explore the underwater caves along the rocks on the right side of the cove. Take your snorkeling equipment and admire the majestic depths of the Amorgean sea! You will not regret it!
You can also bring your own sunbeds and umbrellas, there is plenty of room if you arrive early enough. Please do not forget your sunscreen. In addition, you can enjoy local seafood and other dishes in the nearby tavernas.
Ammoudi beach, on the south-western coast of the island, is a quiet beach protected from the north wind, with sand, pebbles and clean waters.A footpath starts in Arkesini village square (Loza), and the beach is about half an hour’s walk away.
The Beach Kato Kampos is a deep and narrow cove with a small pier and sand-and-pebble beach. In order to reach, take the road to Kolofana village, and then follow the dirt road to the right to reach. The scenery here including the tiny chapel built next to sea,is wild and beautiful and seemingly unexplored.
A few meters to the west of Agia Paraskevi church in Kato Meria, (2.5 kilometers from Kolofana village), you will find the sandy and pebbled beach of Paradisia. Occasionally, and depending on the prevailing winds, swimming is not recommended due to the high swell.
A beautiful sandy bay at the southern edge of the island. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available for rent, as well as kayaks for the more adventurous! The bay is very sheltered and wonderful for a swim in the clear waters.
There is a canteen on the beach, serving cool drinks and snacks throughout the day. Kalotaritissa is also the starting point for the short boat trip to Gramvousa island when the weather is good.
A deserted islet located opposite Kalotaritissa bay. Gramvousa beach combines diaphanous blue waters with fine golden sand, while a part of it is organized with sunbeds and umbrellas. It can be reached only by boat on a daily basis, either from Kalotaritissa or from Katapola (one of the island’s two ports), when the weather permits.
The price of access to and from the island by boat is 5 euros per person.
